Delage Type A History

The Type A was the car that launched Delage. Introduced in 1906, just a year after Louis Delâge founded his company in Levallois-Perret with borrowed capital of 35,000 francs, it was powered by a single-cylinder De Dion-Bouton engine of 4.5 or 9 hp — the off-the-shelf propulsion of the voiturette era.

Louis Delâge recognised from the outset that motor racing was the fastest route to publicity. He entered the Type A in competitions immediately, and by 1908 a Delage voiturette had already won the Coupe des Voiturettes, establishing the brand's sporting credentials before the marque was even five years old.
