History
Nissan relaunched the Datsun brand in June 2013 as a low-cost vehicle umbrella for emerging markets. The Go hatchback — unveiled in New Delhi in July 2013 and on sale from 2014 — was the first product, sold in India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Russia. The Go+ was a stretched, three-row mini-MPV derivative.
Despite cumulative global sales of around 470,000 units between 2014 and 2022, the revival Datsun struggled against established rivals like the Hyundai Grand i10 and Toyota Etios, and received criticism for poor safety ratings in independent crash tests. Nissan wound down sales in Russia and Indonesia in 2020, then in India and South Africa in 2022, bringing the Datsun brand to a final close.
