Datsun 1200 History

The Datsun 1200, based on the Nissan Sunny B110 platform, was sold in the US from the 1971 through 1973 model years. With a price below $1,900 and EPA-rated economy that topped all cars measured by the agency in 1973, it appealed directly to buyers stung by the oil crisis.

North American sales totalled over 133,000 units across three model years. The sporty two-door fastback coupe version became a grassroots racing fixture — Datsun 1200 Coupes won three SCCA C-Sedan National Championships. The 1200 was succeeded by the Datsun B210 for 1974.
