Datsun 720 Pickup History

Introduced in October 1979, the Datsun 720 replaced the 620 as the brand's compact pickup and carried the Datsun name through the mid-1980s. It was offered in regular cab and King Cab models, with regular and long-bed options, and became the first Nissan-family vehicle assembled in the United States when the Smyrna, Tennessee plant opened in 1983.

Four-wheel-drive variants expanded its appeal for off-road buyers. The 720 sold under the Datsun name in the US through the 1985 model year; the truck was rebadged as the Nissan Hardbody (D21) for 1986 as Nissan completed its US brand transition.
