Clan Crusader Mk II (Irish) History

After the original Clan Motor Company collapsed in 1973, its assets (including moulds and remaining stock) passed briefly to Cypriot truck manufacturer Andreas Kaisis, who planned to resume production in Cyprus; Turkey's 1974 invasion of Northern Cyprus shelved those plans entirely. Nearly a decade later, Peter McCandless established Clan Cars Ltd in Northern Ireland and revived the Crusader in 1982, retaining the glassfibre monocoque structure but updating the car with pop-up (retractable) headlights and improved brakes.

The Northern Irish cars used engine options ranging up to 78 bhp and were regarded as a genuine improvement on the original. Approximately 120 to 130 road cars were produced before Clan Cars Ltd ceased operations around 1986.
