History
The original Tiggo was unveiled at the 2005 Beijing Auto Show on March 22 and launched Chery into the SUV segment, which was then booming in China. The compact, ladder-influenced crossover (later retroactively called the Tiggo 3) combined affordable pricing with decent interior space and gradually built a loyal export customer base across emerging markets.
Through the 2010s Chery expanded the Tiggo into a full SUV family spanning every size class: the subcompact Tiggo 2 and Tiggo 4, the compact Tiggo 7 (debuted 2016), the mid-size Tiggo 8 (revealed at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show), and the flagship Tiggo 9 (introduced 2024). The Tiggo 5 ran from 2013 until 2021 before the Tiggo 7 consolidated that slot.
By 2024, the Tiggo family underpins Chery's export strategy across more than 80 countries and is offered with petrol, plug-in hybrid, and hybrid powertrains. The Tiggo 8 in particular has become a strong seller in markets including South America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
