Cadillac Seville History
History
The Seville launched in spring 1975 as a more compact, more expensive 'international-size' Cadillac aimed squarely at European luxury imports like Mercedes-Benz — notably priced above the much larger DeVille. It was a deliberate answer to a market Cadillac had been ignoring.
The 1980 second generation adopted front-wheel drive and a divisive razor-edged 'bustleback' rear styling inspired by classic British coachwork. Later Sevilles (and the STS sport-luxury trim) became key Northstar-V8 flagships through the 1990s before the name gave way to the STS for 2005.
