Cadillac Fleetwood History

Fleetwood — long a Cadillac body-builder and a senior model designation since the 1930s — became a standalone full-size line marketed from 1977. For 1993 the rear-wheel-drive, D-body Fleetwood returned to replace the discontinued Brougham as Cadillac's largest sedan, a body-on-frame land yacht in a market rapidly moving away from them.

The 1994–1996 cars adopted the Corvette-derived LT1 5.7-liter V8. After the 1996 model year GM ended its full-size rear-drive sedan production in North America (converting the Arlington plant to trucks and SUVs), and the Fleetwood name was retired.
