Buick LeSabre History

The LeSabre became a Buick model for 1959 (the name had first appeared on a 1951 GM Motorama show car) and served as the brand's entry-level full-size car for the next 46 years, below the Electra and later the Park Avenue.

It moved to front-wheel drive on GM's H-body in the 1980s and, through the 1990s and 2000s, was repeatedly among the best-selling full-size cars in the United States — a roomy, comfortable, value-priced large sedan favored by traditional buyers.

Production ended in 2005 as GM consolidated Buick's full-size cars around the Lucerne.
