Bollinger B1 History

The B1 was Bollinger Motors' first vehicle, presented in June 2017 as a prototype of a stripped-down, all-electric off-road SUV. Its deliberately stark, slab-sided aluminum body — with a flat windshield, exposed hardware, and a removable roof — drew comparisons to the original Ford Bronco and the Land Rover Defender, casting the B1 as an unapologetically utilitarian alternative to increasingly luxurious electric trucks.

The production-intent design shown in 2019–2021 paired dual electric motors making a combined 614 hp and about 668 lb-ft of torque with a 120-kWh battery rated for roughly 200 miles of range. Engineered as a Class 3 truck, it featured front and rear locking differentials, a two-speed gearbox, portal hubs giving up to 15 inches of ground clearance, and a pass-through 'frunk'-to-bed channel — capability-first hardware rather than on-road refinement.

Despite strong early interest, the B1 never reached production. In January 2022 Bollinger postponed its consumer vehicles indefinitely to focus on commercial trucks, refunding deposits. The B1 remains the brand's recognized debut SUV — a vehicle that defined Bollinger's rugged identity but was cancelled before a single customer car was built.
