History
The original 8 Series (E31, 1989–1999) was a pillarless V12 grand tourer with pop-up headlights — a 1990s technology flagship.
BMW revived the name with the G14/G15/G16 (2018–present), a luxury grand-touring coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe topped by the twin-turbo V8 M8. // Source: Wikipedia "BMW 8 Series (E31)" — US import ran MY1991–1997; 1989–1999 above is the broad production span per the make's year-boundary convention.
