History
The Senova D50 compact sedan debuted at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show and launched to market in the second half of 2014. It sat above the entry-level D20 in BAIC Motor's Senova hierarchy and was derived from intellectual property acquired from Saab, reflecting BAIC's strategy of using Swedish engineering as a foundation for its fledgling domestic brand.
A second-generation D50 (the U5) followed as part of the broader refresh of the model range. When BAIC formally dissolved the Senova brand in May 2020 and launched the 'Beijing' marque in its place, the D50's successor continued sales as the Beijing U5, carrying the underlying platform forward under the new brand identity.
