History

The BAIC New Energy EU5 was officially launched at the 2018 Beijing Auto Show on April 25, 2018, offered in R500 and R550 variants with NEDC ranges of 416 km and 450 km respectively. The permanent-magnet synchronous motor produced 160 kW (215 hp) and 300 N·m of torque, giving the EU5 competitive performance within the compact EV segment.

At launch the EU5 achieved average monthly sales of no fewer than 3,000 units in China, making it one of BAIC's most commercially successful own-brand vehicles in the early electrification era. The EU5 sold primarily in Chinese cities under the BAIC New Energy / Beijing brand and was discontinued in 2025 as the brand consolidated its EV lineup around newer architectures.
