Asia Motors Towner History

The Asia Towner was a compact microvan based on the Daihatsu Hijet platform (also assembled by Kia as the Kia Towner), produced from 1992. Its tall, box-like body maximised interior volume for its tiny footprint, making it a practical city delivery van and passenger carrier.

In Brazil the Towner was a notable import in the 1990s, popular partly because of its low price, and became iconic enough to be nicknamed informally as a street-food-vendor staple. Production under the Asia badge ran until the brand was discontinued in 1999, though the underlying platform continued as the Kia Towner into the early 2000s.
