Alpina D3 History
History
The D3 was introduced at the 2005 IAA based on the BMW E90 3 Series, giving Alpina a diesel entry in the compact executive class. When BMW's own 320d / 323d displaced the early naturally aspirated niche in 2008, Alpina responded with the D3 BiTurbo — a twin-turbocharged diesel coupé first, then sedan and Touring — continuing the model through E90, F30, and ultimately G20 3 Series platforms.
The diesel Alpina 3 Series found a strong following in Europe for combining impressive fuel economy with Alpina's characteristic torque-rich performance and handcrafted finish. A D3 S variant on the G20 platform, facelifted in 2022, was the final expression, concluding production in 2024 as Alpina wound down its independent model range.
