Volvo S80 History
History
The S80 arrived for the 1999 model year as Volvo's new full-size flagship sedan, built on the P2 platform and replacing the aging 960. It introduced Volvo's clean, Scandinavian design language in the executive class with a wide range of turbocharged inline-five and later inline-six engines, and an optional transversely mounted T6 twin-turbo V6.
A second generation (2006–2016) updated the styling and moved to the P3 platform, shared with the XC60 and second-generation V70. Production ended in May 2016 after 18 years, with the more stylish S90 succeeding it at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
