History

The S60 debuted for the 2001 model year as the sport-oriented sedan below the S80, sharing the P2 platform with the XC90 and V70. A more driver-focused alternative to the S80, the first-generation S60 was praised for its handling and received a turbocharged T5 variant alongside the base inline-five.

The second generation (2010–2018) brought sharper styling and eventually a Polestar-engineered 345-hp Polestar variant, produced in limited numbers. The third-generation S60 (from 2018) was notable for being Volvo's first car built in the United States — at the new Ridgeville, South Carolina plant — and for being offered exclusively with electrified drivetrains including a plug-in hybrid T8.
