Volvo C70 History
History
The first-generation C70 debuted at the 1996 Paris Motor Show and went on sale in Europe as a 1997 model (US: 1998 model year). Co-developed with TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), it was based on the 850/V70 platform and offered a turbocharged coupe and an open cabriolet. A total of 76,809 first-generation C70s were built, of which 27,014 were coupes (to 2002) and 49,795 cabriolets (to 2005).
The second generation, debuting at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show and sold from 2006, shared the Volvo S40 platform and was built by Pininfarina in Sweden. It featured a unique three-piece folding hardtop and was offered only as a convertible. This generation ran until the final car rolled off the line on 25 June 2013, with 88,760 units produced.
