History

Launched in 1926 as Studebaker's premier model, the President aimed at the prestige field against the likes of Cadillac and Packard. From January 1928 it used a smooth straight-eight engine, and the late-1920s President was a genuinely fast, well-regarded luxury car that set a number of endurance and speed records.

The original President ran through 1942, when wartime production halted. The name was revived for 1955 as Studebaker's top trim and was discontinued after 1958, when the company refocused on the compact Lark.
