Rinspeed Oasis History

Debuted at CES 2017 in Las Vegas (and shown again at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show), the Rinspeed Oasis was Frank M. Rinderknecht's vision of fully autonomous urban mobility — a two-seat electric runabout with lounge-style armchairs, a curved 5K display with voice and gesture control, and — its most-photographed feature — a dashboard-mounted garden bed large enough for bonsai trees or radishes, fed by sensors that optimise light and water.

The Oasis sat on ZF's Intelligent Rolling Chassis, used two in-wheel rear motors with torque vectoring, and featured near-zero-radius turning. A collapsible steering wheel could be deployed if the occupant chose to drive manually (after passing an alertness check). At the rear, a temperature-controlled, code-protected delivery drawer enabled parcel drop-off without human contact. A solar-cell canopy contributed to on-board energy. The Oasis was a concept prototype and was not produced in series.
