Radical SR1 History

Unveiled as a prototype in 2012, the SR1 was conceived as a more accessible on-ramp into Radical's racing ecosystem, targeted at drivers stepping up from karts or entry-level single-seaters who were not yet ready for the higher-power and higher-cost SR3. Powered by a four-cylinder RPE-Suzuki-derived 1,340 cc engine producing around 182–188 bhp, it is lighter and lower-powered than the SR3, with Radical claiming 0–60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds. In 2013, Radical launched a dedicated SR1 Cup championship for novice racers to complement the car's debut season.

The SR1 has continued in the lineup and was updated in 2023 as part of the unified XXR range redesign. The SR1 XXR features the Generation 5 RPE-Suzuki engine (188 bhp, 1,340 cc), an updated aerodynamic package, and the digital data infrastructure shared across the XXR family. At around 510 kg dry weight, it remains the lightest car in the current Radical range.
