A navigation claim needs three dates

Record when the hardware was offered, which map-data release is installed, and when the service or update channel ended. A screen built for one model year can run much older road and destination data, while a phone-projection system can use a current map without changing the vehicle hardware.

Verify whether positioning, route calculation, traffic, voice search, and destination lookup run in the car, on a paired phone, or through a remote service. That architecture determines what still works without a subscription or cellular connection and what location history may leave the vehicle.

Map updates are configuration-specific

Disc, memory-card, hard-drive, over-the-air, and dealer-programmed systems require different update media and region packages. A map product that fits the dashboard family may still reject the vehicle because of market, software level, activation, or head-unit version.

Before buying an update, identify the exact system in the settings screen and service literature. Preserve the old media until the replacement is verified, and distinguish an unsupported map database from failed GPS reception, a damaged antenna, or a lost connected-service account. Check whether an update changes only maps or also system software, because rollback and battery-support requirements can differ.

Identify the software generation

The same vehicle generation can use multiple infotainment and map platforms.

Check update support, media format, phone compatibility and account-reset procedure for the exact model year rather than judging by screen size. Record the map region, database version, and hardware identifier before comparing two otherwise similar cars.
