Maserati Grecale History
History
Announced alongside the MC20 in late 2020 and entering production at Stellantis's Cassino plant in March 2022, the Grecale is a compact luxury crossover positioned below the (now discontinued) Levante. Named for the Mediterranean Gregale wind, the Grecale shares the Giorgio platform with the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and the fifth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee, but is substantially engineered as a distinct Maserati product.
The Grecale went on sale in North America in early 2023. Entry GT and Modena trims use mild-hybrid inline-four engines; the Trofeo version pairs a 530 PS twin-turbo V6 with all-wheel drive for supercar-rivalling crossover performance. A fully electric Grecale Folgore is offered for markets where EV infrastructure supports it.
With the Levante's discontinuation in 2024, the Grecale has effectively become Maserati's volume SUV anchor and is central to the brand's near-term strategy.
