History
Replacing the 3200 GT, the Maserati Coupé (2002) and its open sibling, the Spyder (2001 — actually launched first), used a new Ferrari-derived 4.2-litre V8 producing 390 hp and offered a paddle-shift Cambiocorsa automated-manual gearbox alongside a conventional six-speed manual. The platform also underpinned the fifth-generation Quattroporte.
Pininfarina designed the Spyder while the Coupé body was related but distinct. Both models sold well by Maserati standards through 2007, helping sustain the brand commercially while the Quattroporte V (2003) re-established the flagship sedan.
