Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October 1998, the 3200 GT signaled Maserati's return to the grand touring market under Ferrari's newly acquired stewardship. Styled by Italdesign (Giugiaro), the car was notable for being the first production vehicle to use LED taillights — the instantly recognizable 'boomerang' shape that became a Maserati design signature.
Power came from a twin-turbo 3.2-litre V8 derived from the Biturbo-era Quattroporte IV engine but substantially revised, producing 370 hp at 6,250 rpm, mated to a six-speed ZF manual (or four-speed automatic). Despite a relatively short production run of four years and approximately 4,795 cars built, the 3200 GT re-established Maserati as a credible, world-class GT maker — the bridgehead for the Coupé and Spyder that followed.
