DeSoto Deluxe History
History
The DeSoto Deluxe was the lower-priced of the two postwar DeSoto series, sold below the Custom from 1946 to 1952. It shared the Custom's L-head 236.7-cubic-inch six-cylinder engine but with plainer trim and fewer body styles.
Together the Deluxe and Custom carried DeSoto through the immediate postwar boom. Both names were retired after 1952 when DeSoto reorganized its range around the new Hemi V8 Firedome and the six-cylinder Powermaster for 1953.
