The S-10 launched for 1982 as Chevrolet's compact pickup, replacing the imported LUV, and became a high-volume small truck through two generations.
It underpinned the S-10 Blazer SUV and spawned sporty versions like the lowered S-10 Xtreme. The Colorado replaced it after 2004. (Its corporate cousin, the GMC-built turbo Syclone, became a cult performance truck.)
Xtreme was a sport package, not a V8 engine designation
Chevrolet's 2003 U.S. S-10 brochure identifies Xtreme as an LS option package. Its powertrain table lists the Vortec 2200 four-cylinder and Vortec 4300 V6, with separate two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive applications. A V8-converted truck should not be treated as evidence of a factory V8 Xtreme offering. These statements describe the cited 2003 U.S. brochure, rather than certifying every S-10 year or market.
