History

Introduced in 1958 as a top Bel Air trim and a standalone series for 1959, the Impala became Chevrolet's full-size flagship and, through much of the 1960s, the best-selling car in America.

After a 1985 retirement, it returned for 1994–1996 as the Impala SS — a 260-hp LT1 V8 sedan derived from the Caprice that became a modern cult classic.

A front-wheel-drive Impala revived the name again from 2000 to 2020, ending as a well-regarded large sedan as the segment collapsed.
