Chevrolet Caprice History
History
The Caprice debuted for 1965 as a top Impala trim and became a standalone upscale full-size model, positioned as Chevrolet's near-luxury sedan.
Its rear-drive, body-on-frame 1991–1996 generation became a fleet staple — the Caprice and its 9C1 police package were everywhere as patrol cars and taxis before GM ended it in 1996 to build SUVs in the plant.
