History

The Monte Carlo launched for 1970 as Chevrolet's personal-luxury coupe, a stylish two-door built on the Chevelle's underpinnings.

It became a fixture in NASCAR, where its name carried Chevrolet's stock-car effort for years. After a 1988 pause it returned in 1995 as a front-drive coupe, ending production in 2007.

The 1983–1988 Monte Carlo SS, built partly to homologate NASCAR aero, is a sought-after G-body collectible.
