Chevrolet Malibu History
History
The Malibu began in 1964 as the upscale trim of the Chevelle and became a standalone model when it replaced the Chevelle nameplate for 1978.
After a hiatus in the early 1980s, the Malibu name returned for 1997 as a front-wheel-drive mid-size sedan and ran through several generations as a Camry/Accord rival, ending production in 2024 as Chevrolet exited the segment.
