History

Launched for 1964 as Chevrolet's mid-size car, the Chevelle is best remembered as one of the great muscle-car platforms of the 1960s and '70s.

The Super Sport became its own series in 1966 with the SS 396; the 1970 SS 454 LS6 — rated at 450 hp — is one of the most revered American muscle cars. The Malibu trim eventually replaced the Chevelle name after 1977.
