History

The Cavalier launched for 1982 on GM's front-drive J-body platform and became one of America's best-selling cars for much of the 1980s and '90s as an inexpensive, practical compact.

Two long generations carried it through 2005, including the sportier Z24 coupe, before the Cobalt replaced it. (The Cavalier name later returned on a separate China-market sedan.)
