The Type 13 was the first car built solely under the Bugatti nameplate, entering production in 1910 at Molsheim with a 1.45-litre four-cylinder engine producing around 40 PS. Ettore Bugatti applied his obsessive principles of lightweight construction and high-quality workmanship from the outset, resulting in a two-seater open car weighing roughly 490 kilograms.
The car's greatest moment came at the 1921 Voiturette Grand Prix in Brescia, where Bugatti-entered machines finished first, second, third, and fourth outright — a sweep so dominant that all subsequent four-valve Bugattis carried the 'Brescia' suffix as a badge of honour. By the time production ended in 1926, approximately 2,000 examples had been sold, establishing the marque's reputation for road-going competition cars.
