History

In May 2003, Brabus launched the smart city coupé Brabus (soon renamed the smart fortwo Brabus), bringing its widened wheel arch flares, bespoke alloys, and a mild power boost to Smart's diminutive city car. The formula proved unexpectedly popular: over 50,000 Brabus-badged Fortwos were sold, making it the most commercially successful product to come out of the Bottrop workshops.

In November 2004, Brabus revealed the 'Ultimate 101' — a run of just 101 cars based on the fortwo with a 74 kW (101 hp) uprated engine at a price of €39,900. Between 2006 and 2007, a 50-unit 'Edition Red' was produced for the UK market. The partnership with Smart continued through subsequent fortwo generations, with Brabus editions offered through to 2019.
