The 1998 model year

Overview

BMW's 1998 U.S. 3 Series closed the E36 era with ten exact configurations. The M44 range narrowed to the 318i sedan and 318ti Compact. New 168-hp M52-powered 323is coupe and 323i Convertible models joined the continuing 190-hp 328i sedan, 328is coupe, and 328i Convertible. The 240-hp S52 M3 appeared in coupe, sedan, and—now for the first time in the U.S.—convertible bodies.
