The 1997 model year

Overview

BMW's 1997 U.S. 3 Series retained the four M44-powered 318 body styles and three M52-powered 328 body styles, then expanded the S52 M3 into separate coupe and sedan configurations. The resulting nine-model roster preserves the 318ti Compact's distinct E36/5 architecture and does not backdate the M3 Convertible, which joined for 1998.
