Berkeley T60 History

Launched in September 1959 at a base price of £400, the T60 was Berkeley's response to the popularity of three-wheelers in the UK tax and licensing regime — owners needed only a motorcycle licence and paid lower road and purchase taxes. It used the familiar 328 cc Excelsior two-stroke twin and was offered with either a soft or hardtop body in the style of the two-wheel-drive Sports.

The T60 became Berkeley's single highest-production model, with approximately 1,800 built in just over a year of production. A T60/4 variant appeared in October 1960 with revised body mouldings to add rear seating for two small children; only around 50 were completed before the company's December 1960 liquidation ended production.
