History
Introduced in 1985, the Turbo R took the Mulsanne Turbo's powertrain and added uprated suspension, wider tyres on alloy wheels (a Bentley first) and far better body control — the 'R' standing for 'roadholding.' It was the car that re-established Bentley as a sporting marque distinct from Rolls-Royce.
A major commercial success, it ran for some 14 years to 1999 and, with the Continental R coupé, did much of the work of rebuilding the Bentley name through the Vickers era — laying the groundwork for the brand's separation from Rolls-Royce in 1998.
