History
The Mark VI, announced in 1946, was Bentley's first post-war model and a milestone for the Rolls-Royce-owned company: it was the first Bentley (and first Rolls-Royce product) offered with a complete 'standard steel' factory body rather than only as a bare chassis for coachbuilders. Bodies were pressed by Pressed Steel and finished at Crewe.
Powered by a 4,257 cc (later 4,566 cc) inline-six, it was a refined owner-driver saloon and a strong post-war seller. In 1952 a larger-boot version became the R Type, and a small number of high-performance chassis were bodied as the first Bentley Continentals — the R Type Continental.
