BAC Mono History

The BAC Mono made its public debut at the Retro Classics show in Stuttgart in 2011, completing BAC's goal of building a road-legal car with true single-seater racing car dynamics. The first-generation Mono used a 2.3-litre Cosworth Duratec producing 280 bhp in a carbon-fibre and aluminium chassis weighing just 540 kg, delivering a 0–62 mph time of 2.8 seconds. A 2015 revision upgraded the engine to a 2.5-litre Mountune Racing unit producing 305 bhp.

In July 2019, BAC launched the Mono R at the Goodwood Festival of Speed — a limited run of 30 examples featuring graphene-enhanced carbon-fibre bodywork, a 343 bhp Mountune Duratec engine, and a weight of 555 kg, giving a class-leading 618 bhp per tonne. All 30 cars sold before the official launch. BAC followed this with the Mono One in 2020: a three-car celebratory final edition (priced at £158,950 each) in Iconic White, Carbon Black, and Neon Red, formally closing out the first-generation production run.

The second-generation Mono launched for the 2021 model year with a substantially redesigned body taking styling cues from the Mono R. The 2024 update — debuted at Monterey Car Week 2023 — brought a naturally aspirated 2.5-litre Mountune engine producing 311 bhp, a new carbon airbox with individual throttle bodies, revised suspension, and a dry weight of 570 kg; 0–60 mph falls to 2.7 seconds. BAC simultaneously confirmed development of a turbocharged EcoBoost variant to meet tighter global emissions rules in certain markets.
