Willys (Willys-Overland) Willys 77 History

Launched for 1933 as Willys-Overland reeled through the Great Depression (the company entered receivership in 1933), the Willys 77 was a small, inexpensive car built around a 134-cubic-inch L-head four. Its distinctive streamlined body, with a narrow waterfall grille, was styled by Amos Northup.

The 77 was the company's volume survival product through the worst of the 1930s, with about 67,600 built across four years, before it evolved into the restyled 1937 Willys that ultimately became the Americar.
