Trident Tycoon History

Launched in 1971 as a third variant of the Fiore-bodied coupe, the Tycoon was positioned as a refined grand tourer rather than an outright sports car. It used the Triumph 2500's 2,498 cc straight-six engine with fuel injection, paired with a three-speed automatic transmission — a combination intended to appeal to buyers who wanted the Trident's distinctive styling without the demanding manual gearboxes of the Clipper and Venturer.

The Tycoon was listed at approximately £2,584 at launch and shared the TR6 chassis with the Venturer. It is the rarest of the three Trident production models: most sources record only six or seven examples completed before the company folded in 1974. The marque's closure, blamed on the oil crisis, American emissions legislation that blocked exports, and the general downturn in the specialist sports-car market, ended all three model lines simultaneously.
