History

The Shelby GT-H revived the 1966 GT350H Hertz 'rent-a-racer' concept. For the program's 40th anniversary, the 2006 Shelby GT-H (a black-and-gold coupe) was offered exclusively through Hertz rental locations — 500 coupes were built, followed by 500 convertibles for 2007.

For the 50th anniversary the GT-H returned for 2016, based on the 5.0-liter Mustang GT and enhanced with Ford Performance suspension, exhaust, and wheels plus Shelby styling cues. As with the original, the appeal was the chance to rent — and briefly drive hard — a genuine Shelby.
