Saturn Sky History

The Sky was Saturn's late-era halo car: a rear-drive two-seat roadster on GM's Kappa platform, closely related to the Pontiac Solstice and the European Opel GT. Reaching the US market for the 2007 model year, it was styled at GM Design and offered as a soft-top roadster starting below $25,000.

The base Sky used a naturally aspirated 177-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder. The Sky Red Line added a 260-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec, matched spec-for-spec with the Pontiac Solstice GXP. The Red Line came standard with a torque-sensing limited-slip differential, StabiliTrak, sport suspension, 18-inch wheels, and a digital boost gauge. Roughly 35,000 Sky units were built across all model years.

Praised for its striking exterior design, the Sky was caught up in GM's 2009 Chapter 11 restructuring and the collapse of Penske Automotive's planned acquisition of Saturn. Production ended in 2010 with the brand's closure — a bittersweet conclusion to Saturn's most driver-focused product.
