Overview
The second-generation W126 reached US showrooms for 1981 (after a late-1980 launch). With the W126 the S-Class became the first production car offered with a driver's airbag — introduced in 1980 — cementing its role as the industry's safety pioneer. The W126 went on to become the best-selling classic S-Class and a widely admired design, later adding a passenger airbag in 1988.
