History

The original A-Class (W168, 1997) was a tall, short 'monobox' city car famous for an early 'moose test' tipping incident that led to standard ESP.

Later generations (W176, W177) became conventional front-drive premium hatchbacks and sedans; the US received the A-Class sedan for 2019 (the W177's first US model year), with the AMG A35 following for 2020.
