Mastretta MXA History

In 1995, Mastretta — operating under the Unediseño-Mastretta brand — produced its first vehicle, the MXA, a small open-top sports car built on a Volkswagen Beetle platform with the air-cooled VW flat-four engine producing approximately 44 bhp. The lightweight body gave it a reported top speed of around 127 km/h.

Only a small number of hand-made units were built, with a few reportedly exported to Germany, Japan, and the United States. A minor variation, the MXB, featured different headlights but was otherwise essentially the same car. Neither the MXA nor MXB constituted a commercial production run; they were closer to bespoke kit cars that established the studio's capability and reputation before the more ambitious MXT project.
