History

Unlike the 2013–2019 first-generation 500e (a battery conversion of the ICE 500 sold only in California), the current 500e is a ground-up new electric car unveiled in Milan on March 4, 2020. Built on a dedicated EV platform at Fiat's historic Mirafiori plant in Turin, it uses a 42 kWh battery offering approximately 200 km of WLTP range and is offered as a hatchback and a cabriolet.

The 500e returned to the United States for the 2024 model year after a five-year absence — arriving with a starting price around $34,095 and a 149-mile EPA range. US sales remained modest; Stellantis suspended production at Mirafiori multiple times in 2024 due to weak demand, particularly in North America.
