History

Announced in 2015 and entering production at Mazda's Hiroshima factory alongside the fourth-generation MX-5 Miata, the modern Fiat 124 Spider shared the MX-5's rear-wheel-drive platform, chassis, interior, and soft-top mechanism but wore unique Italian bodywork and a turbocharged 1.4-litre Fiat MultiAir four-cylinder engine in place of the Mazda's naturally aspirated unit.

The 124 Spider was sold in North America for model years 2017 through 2020. An Abarth 124 Spider variant, with sport-tuned suspension and uprated exhaust, was also offered. On December 23, 2020, Stellantis announced the 124 Spider and the Fiat 500 would be withdrawn from the North American lineup after the 2020 model year and would not return.
